Dorchester Tire Service Averts Crisis, Reaps ASA Bailout Rewards
NASHUA, NH (July 28, 2009) - ASA Tire Systems' announced today that they have granted Dorchester Tire Service of Boston, MA a portion of the $1 million Tire Dealer Bailout Fund to remedy an emergency technology failure at their business this month.
Like other dealers in this economy, Dorchester Tire was working with older hardware, and had known for some time that without an upgrade a failure may be imminent. This month, a disaster occurred and their server crashed for the last time. Completely dependent on a back-up tape, and concerned about the expense of the resolution, Alan Saks, president of Dorchester Tire, found himself driving to ASA Tire Systems headquarters with a single back-up tape, looking for a solution.
As a long-time customer of ASA, Dorchester Tire Service joined the ASA family in 1983, Saks was pleased to be granted a portion of the $1M Bailout Fund to cover some of the costs to get his business back up and running. Dorchester Tire moved their entire system to ASA's offsite ASP server and was up and running not one day later. ASA was able to use their expertise get Dorchester Tire back up and running in a timely fashion, and granted the Bailout funds to minimize the overall financial burden.
In a letter to the company, Saks said, "... we have been TireMax users for a very long time. Despite constant reminders from your staff, we somehow never did get around to replacing our twelve year old server. Without notice our server shutdown at 8:30 am on a Tuesday... This did not give us a warm fuzzy feeling. I found myself sitting in your Nashua conference room with Michelle (Lanza), Dean (Rascoe) and my backup tape. Within an hour we had resolved the details for a plan going forward, and your support people began their attempt to capture our data from the tape and restore our system to your offsite server. I am amazed that the entire disruption lasted less than 28 hours. Please extend my sincere appreciation and thanks to all of your staff for their successful efforts to avert a major crisis to our business."
Nationwide, hundreds of independent tire dealerships have submitted grant requests and are currently being considered for funding. Although many applications are currently being processed, funding is still available. Dealers who are interested in applying still have time, and are encouraged to visit the company's website and fill out an application. The monies are in the form of a grant, and do not have to be paid back to the company.
